palak dal is a simple homely dal made with pigeon pea lentils ( arhar or tuvar dal) and fresh spinach (palak). the dal is cooked first and then mixed with sautéed spinach mixture. no onion and garlic is used in the recipe.
to cook the dal, use ½ cup of the lentils along with 2 to 2.25 cups and ½ teaspoon turmeric powder in a pressure cooker. cook for 5 to 6 whistles on medium flame.
if cooking in a pan, then add 2.5 to 3 cups water and turmeric powder. do soak the lentils in water for 1 hour if cooking in a pan.
