Potato – ½ kg
Onion – 2 medium (Finely chopped)
Garlic – 4 big cloves (Chopped)
Green chilly – 4 (Chopped)
Mustard seeds – 1 tbsp
Urad dal – 1½ tbsp
Chana dal – 1 tbsp
Cumin seeds – ½ tbsp
Turmeric powder – ½ tsp
Red chilly powder – ¼ tsp
Pepper powder – ¾ tsp
Peel and cut potatoes into small pieces. Wash the cut potatoes twice and let it remain in the water until ready to use.
Heat oil in a pan. Splutter mustard seeds.
Add urad dal and chana dal.
Once the dal turns golden, add cumin seeds.
Add onion, garlic, green chilly.
Once onion turns soft, lower the flame and add turmeric powder, red chilly powder and pepper powder.
Once the raw smell of masala powders is gone, add potatoes and salt.
Increase the flame. Mix well.
Cover and cook on medium flame till the potatoes are done. It took me around 10-12 minutes.
Sprinkle some water if it becomes dry. Stir often.
Switch off and transfer to a serving plate.
Enjoy the potato masala with chapathi or hot rice.
