Cherupayar parippu or moong dal or green gram is used to make the payasam. Roast the dal for a few minutes in a pan and cook it in a cooker adding a generous amount of water. Jaggery is used for sweetness. Once the dal is cooked, add the melted jaggery. Stir it continuously. Add the coconut milk. Stir it continuously. Finally, add the seasoning. Delicious Onam special Parippu Pradhaman is ready to serve.
